TTU: Starting January 1, 2025, Indian passport holders traveling to Thailand will require an e-visa. This system simplifies visa applications, allowing Indian travelers to apply online. Applications will be processed within 14 days, with offline payment options available for the visa fee.

The Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi announced that this new e-visa system aims to improve the application process for Indian travelers. While e-visas will soon become mandatory, the current 60-day visa exemption for tourism and short business trips will remain in place until further notice.

Transition to the E-Visa for Indian Travelers

For regular passport holders, applications through visa processing agencies will only be accepted until December 16, 2024. Diplomatic and official passport holders can submit applications directly to the Embassy or Consulate-Generals until December 24, 2024. After these dates, all applications must follow the e-visa process.

Indian applicants will need to pay a non-refundable visa fee for the e-visa. Detailed information on offline payment methods will be provided by the respective Embassy and Consulate-Generals. Travelers are encouraged to submit applications through Thailand’s official e-visa portal and track their status.

Why Is This Change Significant for Indian Travelers?

Thailand is one of the most popular destinations for Indian tourists. Vibrant cities like Bangkok and Pattaya, along with islands like Phuket and Koh Samui, attract millions of visitors each year. The country also remains a hotspot for Indian weddings and honeymoons.

In 2019, more than 2 million Indian travelers visited Thailand, marking a substantial rise compared to previous years. The e-visa system is expected to streamline the travel process for this large group of tourists.

Options for Last-Minute Travel

The Thai Embassy has confirmed that Indian nationals can still obtain a visa on arrival for unplanned trips. This option supports last-minute travel needs and complements the new e-visa process.

Staying Updated on the E-Visa Process

The introduction of the e-visa for Indian travelers aims to enhance convenience while maintaining Thailand’s reputation as a top travel destination. Travelers planning to visit Thailand after January 1, 2025, should regularly check official Embassy announcements for any updates on procedures or requirements.

By adopting the e-visa, Thailand continues to welcome Indian travelers while ensuring a more streamlined application process.
