Bali Considers Tourist Entry Fee After Crackdown On Bad Behaviour
Following the island’s crackdown on traffic and visa violations, Indonesia is considering imposing a tourism fee for visitors to Bali, creating yet another possible barrier for vacationers. Tourism Minister Sandiaga Uno said late Monday that the levy would generate funding for conservation initiatives including rebuilding mangroves and coral reefs to make sure visitors would have a beneficial impact on the local ecosystem. Nia Niscaya, a deputy for strategic strategy at the ministry, indicated that Indonesia is using Thailand as a model.
Uno said that there is still debate over the tax’s timing and size.
