Goa’s Iconic Dudhsagar Falls Reopens for Tours After Weeks
Jeep tours to Dudhsagar Falls reopens after weeks of tension. Local jeep operators and the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) recently settled a dispute over booking fees. Now, visitors can once again book Dudhsagar Falls tours either online or offline.
The conflict began when jeep operators objected to GTDC’s online booking fees. They argued that the added cost would drive tourists away, impacting local drivers’ income. Tensions grew when some jeep operators blocked vehicles going to the falls, leaving tourists stranded. This led to a confrontation that required police intervention. Finally, Dudhsagar Falls reopens now.
Dispute Resolution Brings Back Dudhsagar Falls Tours
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant met with the operators to resolve the issue. After talks, GTDC agreed to lower the online booking fee by Rs 200. The online booking system will stay in place, with a review scheduled in a month to finalize the agreement between the Dudhsagar Tour Operators Association and the government.
The delay in tours affected local businesses near Dudhsagar Falls. Hotels, food stalls, and shops suffered losses as tourist numbers dropped. Since mining in the region stopped over a decade ago, tourism around Dudhsagar Falls has become a crucial income source for villagers.
Recent reports show a steady return of tourists. Over 110 vehicles registered offline, transporting around 770 tourists. Meanwhile, 240 other vehicles brought an additional 1,440 tourists who booked through GTDC’s online system.
